Helfyre Review

sarahsilverbergm

Helfyre is a dark romance fantasy novel that is sure to tap into anyone’s mind that struggles with anxiety, with feeling unwanted, with seeking power from within.

Aheia’s character development in this books is gradual, allowing the reader to feel the realness of her mental health struggles and truly visceral fear of going back to her old life. She has so many emotions bottled up, you know they’ll eventually spill out and the way Pomeroy shows this is incredible.

Arioch is morally grey verging into inky depths. What he says and does will twist your insides in good and terrifying ways. Pomeroy stayed true to his role— doesn’t let him go too soft and definitely showed he has some issues of his own to work out. He fights for his people, for what he wants and he looks good doing it.

The dark romance of this book is dark but not compared to many other stories in this genre. It’s filled with games and violence, but is also filled with “I see you” moments. It’s a very good balance, in my opinion, for this genre. The explicit scenes will make you sweat if you’re okay with the trigger warnings, so just make sure you’ve read them!

I love a good soul exchange story and Pomeroy did such an amazing job making this original. The gods, the world, everything is spectacular. And HER WRITING. It does something to my brain- it’s poetry. She takes what so many of us feel and puts it on the page.

Pomeroy builds a wicked world with beautiful, broken things and I absolutely cannot wait to see where her characters take us in the next books.

The book pictured is the special edition Helfyre by Mariel Pomeroy done by the incredible Lit Haven Booktique.
